Dedicated in 1869, this truly individual, converted Shropshire Methodist Chapel has been sympathetically renovated, to create beautiful and comfortable, self catering accommodation. The cottage occupies a peaceful, picturesque setting, nestling in an unspoilt valley on the lower slopes of the Stiperstones range of hills in Shropshire. The Chapel is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), approximately 12 miles equidistant from Shrewsbury and Bishop's Castle. The Stiperstones area of Shropshire has a wealth of history and natural beauty and this property has so much character and charm, that you may never want to leave.

New for 2021

The Old Chapel had a considerable amount of refurbishment recent years, the removal of the all the ground floor radiators and the installation of underfloor heating has made this an even more beautiful space which is constantly warm and cosy. A larger wall mounted TV has been installed in the lounge, New carpets have been fitted in all the bedrooms and on the main staircase, and the master bedroom has been restyled. The most dramatic changes however, have been the complete refurbishment and redesign of both the Chapel's en-suite bathroom and ground floor WC and shower which now have luxurious power showers and beautiful hand printed tiles (designed and printed by Phil & Lara). The kitchen has all new built-in appliances, sink and work-surfaces. The garden area has also been improved and new comfortable seating areas have been created. All new interior doors have made the space feel even more luxurious with their design being based on coventry cathedral's windows.

South Shropshire has been a lead mining area from Roman times right up until the 1950's, historic buildings litter the hillsides and the nearby Snailbeach Leadmines are arguably the best preserved set of lead mining buildings in the country.

The Stiperstones range of hills is dominated by dramatic quartzite tors which tower above an unspoilt heathland, the most famous of these tors is the Devil's Chair, whilst Manstone Rock is the highest point at 536m above sea level.

The nearby Stiperstones Inn offers morning coffee, afternoon tea, and real ale. Between 12:00pm and 9:00pm. With a full menu with over 30 main courses, including: vegetarian, vegan, gluten and dairy free options. Served in either of the two dining rooms or by one of the roaring log fires in the lounge and bar areas. For larger parties, or if you are visiting during peak hours we do recommend booking a table, please call on 01743 791327.

Next door to the Stiperstones Inn is the local shop (The Stiperstones Stores) this really is a brilliant local amenity at it sells everything you might need to make your packing easier, from toiletries to groceries, fire lighters and logs to Champagne and chocolates. The shop really is a treasure-trove of unexpected bargains (that you never knew you needed) and it’s right on your doorstep.

The Perkins Beach Primitive Methodist Chapel had its last service and was deconsecrated in 1984 before being converted into a home and then later run as a B&B for 13 years. Lara & Phil of The Stiperstones Inn purchased The Old Chapel cottage late in 2013 and following refurbishment, letting of this luxury self catering accommodation began in January 2014. The decor is bright and airy, yet warm and inviting and the walls are hung with photography by Philip J Jones, many of whose prints are available for purchase at the Stiperstones Inn. For the squeamish among you it is best to let you know that there has never been a burial at the chapel as there is no graveyard nearby.

This stunning Stiperstones cottage has a Friday change over day, with check out at 10am and check in for new guests at 4pm. This is a cyclist, walker and dog friendly property which is non smoking throughout. The Chapel has everything you will need for the perfect Stiperstones Holiday; including a Private six seater hot tub, to help sooth those aching muscles after climbing The Stiperstones Hills.

If The Old Chapel is not available on the dates you require you could check the availability at our other four star self catering accommodation The Hayloft, Ercall Cottage or our Bed & Breakfast accommodation at The Stiperstones Inn.
